Claudia and the New History of 3 Women Became World Cup Referees

FIFA mentioned a new history in the arbitration of the World Cup. For the first time in history, 3 women became referees and assistant World Cup referees played by men. Claudia Umpierrez from Uruguay became the main referee accompanied by two assistant referees: Luciana Mascarana (Uruguay) and Monica Amoboya (Ecuador). The three heroines became the referee in the U-17 World Cup (under the age of 17) between the Angolan and Canadian men’s teams in Brazil.

Angola match against Canada U-17 went interesting. Angola scored the opening goal through Zine in the 30th minute. Canada responded through Russel Rowe in the 48th minute. Interestingly, in the 21st minute, Claudia Umpirrez blew the whistle for a penalty for the Angolan team because he thought the ball had hit the Canadian player’s hand. However, the referee woman who is also a lawyer canceled his decision. He did that because he received information from the VAR team who helped him from the video room.

In the 90th minute, Claudia made another important decision. He annulled Angola’s goal struck by Zito Luvumbo so that the position remained 1-1. In the 93rd minute, David scored the winning goal for Angola. Angola-Canada final score: 2-1.

Claudia Umpierrez is indeed worthy of being a female referee who becomes a court judge of world-level soccer matches. The woman who was born on 6 January 1983 has been a referee in FIFA international competition since 2010. Since 2016, he has been the first category referee in Uruguay. On September 4 that year she became the first woman in the history of Uruguayan football to referee a match in the Uruguay First Division.

Because of his good performances in 2015 and 2016, he was included in the list of the best referees in the world by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). Claudia was born into a family that loves soccer. He is the nephew of former Uruguay international Rubn Umpirrez.

Claudia added to the long list of referee women’s gait in men’s soccer. Previously there have been names of famous referee women such as Bibiana Steinhaus (Germany) and Quetzalli Alvarado (Mexico). FIFA does want equal opportunities for women and men to become referees in men’s soccer matches. In recent years, FIFA has also appointed female referees to become referees and referees assistants in prestigious events.

The world’s major leagues also provide opportunities for referee women to be judges. On May 19, 2017, Bibbiana Steinhaus was promoted to referee at the top level of German men’s football, Bundesliga, for the 2017–18 season.

The Premier League already has a number of refereed women. One of them is Sian Massey-Ellis. He became assistant referee in the English Premier League. She has also been designated for matches in the Football League Cup, the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying rounds, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Football has always been associated with masculinity and violence. This picture is broken down by the presence of women who, in addition to being able to play soccer, are also soccer referees for male and female matches.

Claudia Umpierrez and her colleagues prove that women are very capable of carrying out duties as referees at world level matches. Physically, Claudia and her friends were able to be a judge in a soccer match that lasted more than an hour.

One advantage of the presence of women as male soccer referees is that male players tend to be gentler to female referees. Explosive emotions typically no longer show male players when they realize that the figure of the referee in front of them is a woman.
