Camilleri: Hamilton and Ferrari’s Chairman encounter blown out of proportion

Hamilton and Ferrari

Louis Camilleri, Ferrari CEO, tried to shred off speculations regarding the Chairman meeting with Lewis Hamilton.

The recent meeting between Hamilton and John Elkann happend, which Camilleri considers that it was “blown out of proportion”.

Hamilton recently confirms his meeting with Elkann at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. This admission to encounter further fueled the speculations regarding the six times world champion moving in on Ferrari’s board.

The British driver is articulated to move when his arrangement with Mercedes expires along with team principal Toto Wolff.

However, Camilleri at Ferrari’s Christmas lunch in Maranello, dismissed the speculations and insisted that the event was social and media shall not exaggerate the interaction between Hamilton and the Chairman.

“Obviously, it was a social event, which has sort of been blown somewhat out of proportion, but it was a social event. They have some common friends.”

The notions of Hamilton moving from Mercedes were supported by the fact Sebastian Vettel is likely to end his arrangements with Ferrari after 2020. Current contract between Ferrari and Vettel will expire with the end of next year season.

Eddie Jordan also pointed out to Vettel moving out from the sport if he doesn’t get an opportunity to work for Mercedes. Mercedes future hangs in the balance as it opposes the new regulations of 2021.

“Vettel will retire at the end of 2020, he can’t go back to Red Bull because he’d get creamed by Max Verstappen,” Jordan reasoned. “However if Mercedes did decide to stay on in F1, it might work for Vettel to go there. [It would be] a consolation prize for losing Lewis.”

Camilleri, who didn’t met Hamilton, commented on the situation arising in 2020. He said,

“The fact is we have a long-term agreement with one driver [Charles Leclerc] and with the other driver the agreement expires at the end of 2020.

“We clearly are very flattered that Lewis in particular, and other drivers want to come and join us, but it would be premature to decide anything today.”
