Tennis News : Former tennis player who has won a number of Grand Slam titles, Rod Laver believes that his junior, Alex De Minaur has things that can make him among the world’s best tennis players.

The 81-year-old Australian tennis legend, Laver praised Alex De Minaur’s work ethic and determination by describing him as an ‘extraordinary talent’ when he first saw De Minaur in action a few seasons ago.

De Minaur is currently ranked 18th in the world. In the 2019 season, De Minaur won titles in Sydney, Atlanta and Zhuhai, all of which were hard-court tournaments off the pitch. He is currently the second youngest player in the top 20 after Denis Shapovalov.

“If he looks convincing here and there, he can side with the world’s top tennis players. “For me, it will be one that counts in the ATP tournament,” Laver said.

De Minaur will kick off the 2020 season in the first week of January in the first edition of the ATP Cup and will unite his strength with compatriot Nick Kyrgios, the player Laver has described as ‘perhaps the best service player in the tennis world’. In the ATP Cup, Australia is in a group with Germany, Greece and Canada. Their group phase match will be held at Pat Rafter Arena, Brisbane.

“The world of tennis has been amazing to have those who play as well as they are now. They will become a solid team, “added laver.

Not for the first time De Minaur is predicted to be one of the big tennis stars in the future. Former top player in the doubles who won 16 Grand Slam titles throughout his career, Todd Woodbridge also became one of the supporters of De Minaur to become a tennis star.

“Alex De Minaur has strength physically and mentally. He just had to get more reliable weapons. I think, in the next two seasons he will win his first Grand Slam title, “said Woodbridge.

So far in his career, De Minaur has only played 10 Grand Slams and he only qualified for the fourth round, namely at the 2019 US Open season. The Australian male has not won a Grand Slam since Lleyton Hewitt won the 2012 Wimbledon.
