Kevin Anderson Shares the Fun About the ATP Cup

Tennis News : The inaugural edition of the ATP Cup will be held on 3 – 12 January 2020 in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney with players from 24 countries competing for titles, points and prize money.

One of the South Africa’s mainstays, Kevin Anderson, who twice played the Grand Slam final, is scheduled to participate in hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals and returning to work in tennis after suffering a knee injury and undergoing surgical procedures. South Africa will compete in Group A with venues in Brisbane against Serbia, France and Chile.

Starting the 2019 season with ranking 6th in the world, Anderson claimed the title in Pune as the best possible start and become the beginning of another solid season for Anderson.

But instead, Anderson struggled to face a number of injuries and only played 15 matches, so he was knocked out of the top 90 for the first time since July 2010.

Kevin Anderson underwent knee surgery last September, so he missed all the tournaments after Wimbledon and had to work hard to come back convincingly in the 2020 season and return to where he was supposed to be, and represent his country in the ATP Cup.

At the end of the 2018 season, Anderson posted a place on the ATP Finals for the first time when he was 32 years old. He defeated Kei Nishikori and Dominic Thiem who drove him to the semifinals before Novak Djokovic blocked his pace. Even so, Anderson finished the 2018 season quite convincingly and hopes to repeat it again in the 2019 season.

But the 2019 season did not go the way Anderson wanted. He suffered knee and elbow injuries and only played five tournaments until Wimbledon.

At the moment, Anderson feels excited and motivated about the start of a new season and the ATP Cup is an opportunity for him to compete for his country after not having participated in the Davis Cup for a long time.

“I can’t wait to represent South Africa in the ATP Cup next season in Brisbane. I can not wait to fight with my fellow countrymen. We will face tough competitors, Serbia, France and Chile, “Anderson said.

“The tournament will be an extraordinary way to start the new season from a personal point of view as well as from the point of view of tennis as a whole. All corners of the world will be watching and I hope we will have your support. “
