Bond between Honda and Red Bull was strengthen because of the engine manufacturer’s ability to fulfill mutually agreed targets.
The partnership bond was boosted through the parties establishing trust by mutually sorting issues and cracking ways to performance enhancement.
Red Bull has showed its trust on the partnership with the Japanese manufacturer. It lauded Honda for working its way to achieve the required progress. The programme was extensive and needed aggressive developments which had required the team to provide specific upgrades at the specific intervals.
Honda had ambitious targets for the start, which it failed. However, it was able to find the solution which it later introduced as Spec 2. Honda fulfilled the schedule requirements for which it was later applauded.
The Autosport news agency reported that Honda was supported by its Research and Development facility in Sakura. R&D facility had facilitated it to meet the required targets within prescribed limited time.
Masashi Yamamoto, Honda Formula 1 Managing Director, said: “We have regular meetings with Red Bull, Christian [Horner] and Helmut [Marko], myself and [Sakura R&D chief Yasuaki] Asaki-san.
“There we share our plans and the current situation as well, they share their plan and current position.
“The fact it is almost on the schedule as planned is very important because we have mutual trust in each other, which makes the relationship stronger.
“We are really looking forward to next year.”
Honda has declined to set specific goals for 2020. But has showed commitment to support Red Bull achieving new and bigger goals. It will help the team to go beyond what it had with Renault as the power plant provider.
Moreover, Marko – Red Bull Motorsport Advisor – has showed its resolve to achieve at least five victories.
Both parties were unable to achieve this year bigger goals but Honda chief was never stressed even in hard times.
“I know Christian and Helmut, we communicate very well, and I have visited the factory at Red Bull,” he said.
“So I trust them.
“I thought that maybe we could win in Monaco, which we couldn’t in the end.
“However, that didn’t give us nerves or anything.
“We were quite relaxed about the situation. We thought it was going to go well.”
