Unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. said on Saturday that he is in good condition and that he has started training again in preparation for a return to the ring next May or June.
“Everyone knows that I was involved in a horrible car accident, but I feel good. I’ve spent a lot of time with my family, my friends, and my little girl. I’ve been enjoying the time with them while I’ve been out from boxing.” Spence said.
“My ribs were just sore, my whole body was just sore. It was, I guess, a miracle from God protecting me from the accident. Anybody else would’ve probably been killed. It was just a blessing from God that I was able to make it safe and return to boxing next year.” Spence added.
Spence miraculously suffered no broken bones after flipping his Ferrari in a horrific high-speed car crash in Dallas back in October. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown out of his vehicle during the smash, which saw the super-car somersault multiple times.
“I don’t remember much, but I can’t really talk about it. I have been advised by my lawyer [not to speak about it] because the matter is not resolved.” Spence said.
The American fighter already back in the gym preparing for next fights. Hehas targeted Manny Paquiao, Terence Crawford, and Danny Garcia, as he future opponents in May or June 2020.
“I’m the top dog in the division, I am the king of the welterweight division. I want to fight the top names in the division, whether it’s Manny Pacquiao, whether it’s Terence Crawford, or whether it’s Danny Garcia. I do want the top names and I do want to be the undisputed champion of the world.” Spence said.
Spence added the WBC welterweight title to his IBF belt with an exciting split-decision victory over Shawn Porter back in September in Los Angeles.
