After a fantastic season in 2019, Valtteri Bottas will remain with the Mercedes team in 2020. The Finn won four races and finished second in the drivers’ championship.
Speaking to reporters, Bottas revealed he really enjoyed his career as a Mercedes driver and it’s very easy to extend a new contract to 2021
“If I could decide on my future for 2021 it would be a no brainer to continue with this team. I really enjoy it here, we are performing better and better, and I am becoming a better driver all the time.” Bottas said.
“I can’t remember a time where so many people are expiring with contracts. I think it’s going to be an interesting season for sure. Of course, I like every other driver, will look at all the possible options.” Bottas added.
During holiday times, Bottas rounded off his 2020 season with a rally outing in a French event at Paul Ricard this weekend, achieving an overall win for good measure.
“It’s a fun thing for me to do and I like it. It’s good for me to try it and to have something different for my skills. You never know what’s ahead in life or what’s going to happen.” Bottas said.
“I haven’t thought that far and I still see myself in Formula 1 for quite some time. I would say never say never but there is still lots to give and lots to achieve in F1, for sure. One day I’ll see what I want to do, but for the moment I find it a lot of fun.” he added.
Bottas is a good driver, but he’ll never win a championship for Mercedes if Hamilton is his teammate. Hamilton is clearly the number one driver, likely gets all the car upgrades ahead of Bottas and as seen in the past gets the benefit of on track team orders.
