Manchester City managed to conquer host Aston Villa with a landslide score of 6-1 in the English Premier League match at Villa Park on Sunday (12/1).
Manchester City had partyed a goal against Aston Villa in the first half. The Citizens successfully package a four-goal lead over the hosts through a pair of goals by Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
Mahrez opened Man City’s lead through individual action in the 18th minute. The Algerian was able to get past Aston Villa players and push into the penalty box before finally releasing a left-footed shot that could not be dammed by Aston Villa keeper, Orjan Nyland.
Mahrez re-listed his name on the scoreboard in the 24th minute. Man City’s strict pressing in the Aston Villa penalty box made the host make a mistake. The ball fell at the feet of Mahrez who immediately fired hard into the goal.
In the 28th minute, Man City chalked the third goal through Sergio Aguero’s feet. After receiving a ball shot from Kevin De Bruyne, Aguero fired a shot from outside the penalty box.
Gabriel Jesus completes the suffering of Aston Villa in the first half through his goal in the 45th minute. A cross released by De Bruyne is easily passed on to a goal by Jesus who is free standing in front of goal.
Although it was four goals ahead in the first round, it did not dampen ‘The Citizens’ attack in the second round. When the match entered the 57th minute, Aguero scored the second goal in this match.
Receiving ball from David Silva, Aguero moved into the penalty box. Although surrounded by three Aston Villa players, the Argentine was able to open fire into the left corner of the goal of Aston Villa.
Aguero then confirmed the hat-trick record through the third goal in the 81st minute. The score also changed to 6-0.
At the last minute, Aston Villa managed to reduce the score to 6-1 through Anwar El Ghazi’s penalty.
The victory made Man City win three points in the away match. With the addition of these three points for a while Pep Guardiola’s team moved up to second place in the league to move Leicester City.
The Foxes must be displaced to third place standings because on the previous day, Saturday (11/1), Leicester lost 1-2 to Southampton at the King Power Stadium.
With Leicester’s defeat last week, Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League championship this season are more open. Currently the Reds are 14 points ahead of Man City after their 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
