RB Leipzig made the Champions League finalists last season, Tottenham Hotspur must leave after winning 3-0 in the second leg of the last 16 at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday (11/3)
These results make Leipzig qualified for the quarter-finals. Julian Nagelsmann’s squad moved to the next phase with a 4-0 aggregate after winning 1-0 in the first leg.
Leipzig started this match with an aggressive game and immediately appeared pressing. While Tottenham looks difficult to develop the game at home to the opponent.
The aggressive game shown by Leipzig bore a goal in 10 minutes. Team captain, Marcel Sabitzer, fired a little from outside the penalty box which thrilled Hugo Lloris’s goal.
Nine minutes after Sabitzer, the host public cheered again. This time, the Leipzig mainstay striker, Timo Werner, broke into the goal of Lloris through close range after receiving Angelino’s pass.
However, the goal scored by Werner was disallowed because the German national team striker was in the offside position before scoring.
Two minutes later, Leipzig finally won 2-0 thanks to Sabitzer’s second goal. Austrian midfielder’s header after receiving Angelino’s cross failed to anticipate by Lloris.
This goal stems from the mistake of Aurier who did not throw the ball perfectly with a header. The ball is controlled by Angelino who precisely sends the ball towards Sabitzer.
Leipzig continued to dominate despite being 2-0 up. On the other hand, Tottenham find it difficult to get out of pressure because of slow flowing the ball when attacking.
Tottenham just got an open opportunity to score in the 41st minute. Lo Celso tried to open fire at the far post which Peter Gulacsi could still deny.
In the second half, the dominance of the game was still shown by Leipzig. One chance was found by Werner but the player’s final settlement was not perfect.
Werner’s shot from outside the penalty box is just above the Lloris crossbar.
Tottenham, who lacked pressure, had a chance to reduce the score to 1-2 in the 74th minute. Lucas Moura managed to trick the Leipzig defender and send feedback to Dele Alli.
However, Alli’s kick was too weak so the ball was easily caught by Gulacsi. After that, it was in fact Leipzig who could increase the score to 3-0 through a goal from substitute Emil Forsberg in the 88th minute and make Leipzig qualify 4-0 on aggregate.
