Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder in seventh rounds to win the WBC heavyweight title last month. And a unification fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua is expected later this year.
The “Gypsy King” had several fights since beating Wladimir Klitschko, as the lineal heavyweight champion. He’s undefeated in 31 fights, but it’s a very competitive division. It’s hard to believe he beat Wilder in 2020. He could have had a ton of defenses by now.
After reclaiming his all heavyweight title belts by beating Andy Ruiz Jr in December, Joshua is now set to face Kubrat Pulev, the IBF’s mandatory challenger, on June 20.
“The fight can happen when Tyson Fury gets past Deontay Wilder, and when I get past Kubrat Pulev. If Fury wants that fight to happen, he will make it happen.” Joshua said,
“Congratulations to him on his last performance. He’s had two good fights in his career, in my opinion, against Klitschko and Deontay Wilder and he’s managed to win them both so he’s on high right now.
“But he has to be careful what he wishes for because the young gunners are coming up and will definitely take that Tyson Fury challenge with both hands.” Joshua added.
Joshua is better at almost everything but he has to get inside on Fury. Fury was adept enough to avoid big punches behind his height and reach.
“We’re keen, we always like to put on big events and cater for the boxing community so that’s something that we’ll take really seriously.” Joshua said.
The Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, meanwhile, said he wants contracts finalised now for this year all-British super fight.
“Now our intention, and conversations are ongoing, is to finalise the Fury vs Joshua fight for December of this year. There’s no reason not to get that contracted now, subject to both guys winning in the summer.” Hearn said.
