Would It be Possible to Complete Champions League in 22 Days?

Next week the fate of the 2019-2020 Champions League season will be discussed further. As known by all football fans, the Champions League was stopped because of Covid-19 virus pandemic in most European countries in the world. One strong option before discussion is that the Champions League will be completed in 22 days. As reported by Sky Sport Italy and quoted by football-italia.net (4/19/2020), UEFA is likely to present the continued stages of the Champions League this season.

The Champions League will be completed from 7 to 29 August 2020. The remaining 16 matches will be held first, namely Juventus vs Lyon and Barcelona vs Napoli which take place on 7 and 8 August. Then, the next phase will be implemented like an home-away system.

The big round 8 phase will be carried out with two legs. The first leg is on the 11th and 12th of August. The second leg of the last eight was held on August 14 and 15. The semifinal will also be held in two legs. The first leg of the semifinals will take place on August 18-19. The second leg of the semifinals will be held on August 21-22. Meanwhile, as usual the final party will be held once. The final will be held on August 29.

On a previous occasion, the UEFA said that the Champions League continued matches will be held in just one country. So, even though the matches in phase 8 and the semi-finals were held in two legs, the mechanism of the away cage did not take place. Turkey is planned to be the place where the rest of the Champions League matches will continue.

Implementation of the remaining Champions League will make the Champions League next season will be delayed. The group phase for the Champions League next season is likely to take place after October 20, 2020. UEFA plans to carry out the remaining Champions League matches after the domestic league is over. UEFA predicts the domestic league will finish in July 2020. However, it is also uncertain.

For example, the English League is not yet known when it will continue. Many discourses have emerged. But authorities in the Premier League say health is paramount. If that holds true, it means that as long as Covid -19 is still available, the English League cannot be implemented yet. What if until June for example, Covid-19 was not completed? Thus, the English League was difficult to finish in July 2020. So, in August 2020, the English League was still held.

It is known, Manchester City is the representative of the English League which is still left in the Champions League this season. On the other hand, even if difficult, City also still has the chance to win the English League. If the Champions League is held in 22 days, then fatigue will spread to the players, especially in the big 8 phase and the semifinals. Because, the intermission gap in that phase is only three to four days.

The tight schedule makes teams with depth squads who can be very competitive. The depth of the squad is when the quality gap between the core and reserve players is not wide. Core players and reserve players have almost the same quality. When referring to the depth of the squad, then Manchester City, including those who have great opportunities.
