Wayne Rooney Believes Harry Kane

Former England striker Wayne Rooney said he should have scored more in his football career and tipped Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane, who has a great 32 goals in 45 international games.

Rooney was the highest ever goal scorer for England national team and Manchester United. The 34-year striker was also once the part of one of the best attacker ever.

“I’m going to be honest, and this might surprise you, but I’m not a natural goalscorer. I hold the goal records for Manchester United and I’m very proud about that, yet there have been better number nines than me.” Rooney said.

“How did I become a record-breaker if I wasn’t a natural scorer? Time. I played for United for 13 years, England for 15 years. I had time to break those records, and looking back I should have scored more.

“I don’t think it will take long for Harry Kane to claim my England record and it would be a proud moment for me.” Rooney added.

Bobby Charlton’s United goalscoring mark of 249 is within range, Rooney is only 16 behind. For England, Sir Boby scored 49 goals in 106 appearances between the years of 1958 and 1970. Meanwhile Rooney has 50 in 107 games.

“I’ve never been a selfish player and it would be great for England for Harry to get there. Bobby Charlton had to wait 50 years for me to break his England record, I hope it’s not so long for me.” Rooney said.

“The United record might lost longer simply because players don’t stay at clubs as long as they used to. Mind you, if Lionel Messi or Christiano Ronaldo came to Old Trafford for a swansong they’d probably break it in three or four years!” he added.

Rooney left United to Everton on 9 July 2017 after the Red Devils allowed him to leave on a free transfer. He then signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with D.C United of MLS in 2018.
