Young Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has revealed his best moment with the Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher when he was a kid around 15 years ago.
Schumacher is widely considered one of the greatest F1 drivers of all-time. He won seven F1 champions and has 91 careers wins. He retired from racing in 2006 before returning in 2010. He retired a second time in 2012.
The 51-year-old champion has not been seen in public since he was severely injured in a horrific skiing injury in 2013. He was placed in a medically induced coma in 2014 and was relocated to his home where he was undergoing rehabilitation privately.
Speaking at a media, Leclerc admitted the German champions was testing on the karting track before the future F1 rookie asked Schumacher to sign his overalls.
“I was very, very impressed, that is the biggest thing I remember. To tell you exactly what we spoke about is difficult because the only thing I remember is looking at his red overalls, looing at him and being just a normal child would be, watching Michael at that time.” Leclerc said.
“It was very special. I remember coming into the paddock, we had an opportunity to see him. It was all very exciting. It was a test day for us on the karting track. I asked him to sign my overall. Then he had to go to the engineers.
“He was very nice, we were lucky in the paddock, nobody there. He took a bit of time to talk to us. It was really nice.” Leclerc added.
It is now seven years on from that incident with exact details of the former champion’s condition unknown. In 2016 Schumacher’s team were forced deny claims in a German magazine that he was now able to walk with the aid of therapists.
