Tennis News: While USTA and FFT stated that they were working on a number of scenarios to ensure this season’s Grand Slam could be held, WTA president Micky Lawler stated that it would not be easy for the tennis tournament to continue through all possible efforts.
To an Argentine event, La Red, Micky Lawler revealed about the continuation of the professional tennis tournament.
“What I know is that everything has done so that the players can return to competing, but that is not easy,” admitted Lawler.
“Until there is a vaccine, it will be very difficult to travel and compete. If the US Open is held, it will be the first tournament (after the COVID-19 pandemic). The next two weeks will determine what will be done.”

Regarding the merger of ATP and WTA, Lawler added, “This is not the first time we have discussed it. In this difficult time, we must take advantage to work together. Tennis will be the best when male and female tennis players are together, like at the Grand Slam. The future of tennis must unite and a relationship must be found to make it possible. It’s not easy, because there are tennis players who don’t want it and they have a lot to say. “
At present, all tennis tournaments until the end of July have canceled with the possibility that the tournament will resume at the beginning of August.
The US Open is schedule to be hold at the end of August, while the French Open is schedule at the end of September.
The organizer of the US Open, USTA, stated that they were looking for various choices in order to be able to hold the tournament, including limiting the audience or not at all and restricting the supporting teams of tennis players at the tournament venue.
They also planned to move the tournament in Cincinnati to New York to make sure the players are in one location while they are in the US.
While the French Open organizer, FFT said that they want the clay-court tournament to hold before the French Open. The organizers of the clay-court tournament in Rome will be happy to host their tournament in September.
Decisions and announcements are expected to inform in mid-June about the status of the tournament which will be held in August and September.
