Antoine Griezmann Wants to End His Career in MLS

Barcelona and France forward Antoine Griezmann has said he wants to play in American Major League Soccer (MLS) before ending his career.

When speaking to Los Angeles Times about the latter stages of his career, Griezmann said the idea of playing in the United States is something that appeals to him

“Winning La Liga and the Champions League with Barca would be a dream, and also my objective. After that winning whatever comes. There’s another World Cup so the World Cup in Qatar. And after that the MLS.” Griezmann said.

“I don’t know with which team, but I really want to play there. For me, it’s an objective to end my career in the United States with the possibility of playing well and being a big part of the team and fighting for a title.” Griezmann added.

Griezmann joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 and has since become one of the world’s best forwards. He will return to La Liga action on June 13 when Barcelona travel to Mallorca. Barca are leading with two points clear ahead of their big rival, Real Madrid.

Two years ago, Griezmann had already mentioned his desire to end his career in North America, then indicating his preference for Los Angeles and Miami, anticipating the club project set up by the British star David Beckham, whose Inter made its big debut in March before the coronavirus suspended the season after just two days.

Griezman won world champion with the Blues in 2018 is still far enough from retirement and has indeed still everything to gain at Barca, where he has not yet given the full measure of his talent alongside the superstar Lionel Messi, since his arrival in the summer of 2019.

The 29-year-old striker was more inclined to hovering around the centre-forward area but did not replicate Luis Suarez production with open play goals and a high volume of shots; he has scored a mere one goal in eight league games since Quique Setien’s arrival.
