Arsenal lost 1-2 when they visited the Brighton & Hove Albion headquarters at the American Express Community Stadium on Saturday (6/20) in the English Premier League.
The visitors appeared offensive from the first minute and immediately made the host defense hassles. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette came to the Brighton penalty box with a series of opportunities until the 10th minute.
After 10 minutes of the Gunners’ chances, the match then proceeded in balance. Even Brighton got the first chance in the 20th minute through Neal Maupay who was still able to be pushed over by Bernd Leno.
Arsenal have a chance again in the 31st minute. Ryan saved the Brighton goal from Lacazette’s header who took advantage of Saka’s pass.
Leno suffered an injury and had to be replaced by Damian Martinez in the 40th minute. Two minutes later the Argentine goalkeeper made a save by blocking Aaron Mooy’s strike.
Entering the second half, Arsenal again tried to suppress from the beginning. Aubameyang once made the ball into the goal, but his position was declared offside. VAR also confirmed that the Gabonese player scored illegally.
Aubameyang had several chances, but it was Nicolas Pepe who scored. After receiving a pass from Saka, Pepe fired a shot that Ryan could not reach. Arsenal lead 1-0 in the 68th minute.
In the 75th minute Brighton equalized. Starting from a corner football scheme, Lewis Dunk leaks the ball in the mouth of Arsenal’s goal sent by Solomon March.
Arsenal tried to score a difference goal for the remainder of the match, but it was Brighton who scored the winner in the final minutes through Maupay.
These results make Arsenal down to the top ten English Premier League standings. Mikel Arteta’s team are now collecting 40 points after two consecutive defeats since the Premier League returned from Manchester City and Brighton.
The defeat of Brighton makes Arsenal remain in danger of relegation this season. The reason is, Arsenal are only 13 points ahead of Bournemouth in 18th place with the English Premier League remaining eight matches, or with a maximum of 24 points can still be achieved.
At the top, a draw against Watford prevented Leicester City from moving away from Chelsea in third place. The Foxes are now collecting 54 points, six ahead of Chelsea who will be playing tonight against Aston Villa.
Crystal Palace moved up to ninth to move Arsenal with 42 points after beating Bournemouth 2-0. Southampton moved up one place to 13th to move Newcastle United, while West Ham United were almost on the brink of relegation.
The defeat of Wolverhampton made West Ham down to 17th position with 27 points, only winning goal difference over Bournemouth who are in the relegation zone.
