Chelsea won 3-0 over Watford in the Week 33 match of the English Premier League at Stamford Bridge Stadium on Sunday (5/7).
Although competing at home against Watford is not daunted. The Hornets try to take advantage of opportunities in the first half through Craig Dawson in the 13th minute. However, Dawson’s shot was wide to the left.
Chelsea took the lead in the 28th minute through Olivier Giroud’s goal. Getting a breakthrough bait from Ross Barkley, Giroud then put the ball into the lower left corner of the Watford goal at the same time outwit the opponent’s defender.
Towards the end of the first half, Willian doubled the advantage of the Blues to 2-0 through a penalty. The host got a penalty after Etienne Capoue violated Christian Pulisic in the forbidden box.
Willian did not disappoint coach Frank Lampard and also supporters of Chelsea. His successful execution fooled goalkeeper Ben Foster and at the same time brought Chelsea into the break with a two-goal lead
At the beginning of the second half Pulisic tried to increase the score for Chelsea. However, the former right footed Borussia Dortmund player’s kick in the 47th minute was still hovering over the Watford crossbar.
Olivier Giroud was not satisfied with his one goal score in the match. The French striker again has a good chance to re-register his name on the scoreboard in the 59th minute.
However, Giroud’s left foot shot from the left side of the penalty box can still be saved by Ben Foster.
Chelsea unleashed two consecutive attacks on goal by Ben Foster. Willian kick from outside the penalty box in the 68th minute can still be blocked by Foster and produce a corner kick. Moments later Kurt Zouma’s header was caught by Foster after making use of Willian’s corner kick.
Defender Adam Masina tried his luck to reduce the position for Watford in the 80th minute. However, Masina’s left-footed free-kick is still weak and easily caught by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
One minute later Kepa made a brilliant save by denying Danny Welbeck’s chance. Welbeck successfully penetrated the Chelsea defense after receiving a breakthrough bait from Nathaniel Chalobah. However, the final solution with the right foot can still be thwarted by Kepa.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek failed to take advantage of a golden opportunity in front of the Watford goal in the 88th minute. Loftus-Cheek’s header from Reece James’s cross was still hovering over Foster’s crossbar.
In the minutes of injury time Barkley changed the score to 3-0 while closing Chelsea’s victory in the match. Barkley scored against Watford thanks to Cesar Azpilicueta’s pass.
This Chelsea victory makes the competition for the top four positions in the Premier League standings more interesting.
