Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0-0, 27 KOs) was great because he had natural ability that he tapped into the maximum. He was as confident as any boxer, he is a great boxing business man. He was the best fighter pound for pound in his era.
“It’s crazy to see someone send me something about the best welterweight of all time. They have Sugar Ray Leonard as number 1. And I said that before, he is the guy who paved the way for myself, but how can you have a guy who is ranked number 1, when his first defeat came against a light weight was Roberto Duran.” Mayweather said.
“And then they also talked to me about my fight with Juan Manuel Marquez which was done in a 144 lbs catchweight. But that same guy, Marquez, who knocked out the number 3 welterweight, they had Pacquiao number 3 in the welterweight but Pacquiao was knocked out by Marquez.
“They tried to say this, essentially, that Marquez was too small for me but that he was not too small for Pacquiao. So it’s crazy how all these rankings are made these days.” Maywaether added.
Mayweather is certainly not the KO artist that you would typically think of when you imagine a very dominant boxer, but he completes the objective of boxing the best: to hit and not to get hit.
“Sometimes when I speak, I speak with my heart and I speak the truth, and sometimes people feel that when I speak to tell the truth, that I am arrogant and pretentious. I just speak with my heart, and I don’t take it out on any fighter, I only speak to tell the truth.” Mayweather said.
“Like when I fought, may he rest in peace, Genaro Hernandez when I was 21 years old, and I think he was 31 or 32 when I fought him. They said he had too much experience for me, but then when I won this fight, they said he was downhill.” he added.
