Valentino Rossi expressed his frustration with Yamaha after the 2020 Andalusia MotoGP, Sunday (7/26), after being asked to imitate the style of racing Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Vinales.
Rossi for the first time in more than a year won the podium in MotoGP. The Doctor finished third in the Andalusia 2020 MotoGP race at the Jerez Circuit after finishing behind Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Vinales.
After the race Rossi admitted that he had to debate with the Yamaha mechanical team to get an M1 motorcycle suit as he wished.
“I came from a frustrating weekend, not just this race, but basically all year long. Basically I don’t ride my motorcycle, I feel uncomfortable,” Rossi was quoted as saying by GP One.
Rossi has always been in trouble with Michelin’s rear tires since 2018. At the time Quartararo and Vinales were able to perform quickly and reach the podium with the M1 motor according to Yamaha mechanics, Rossi was always having trouble competing.
Rossi was later upset because Yamaha had asked him to change his racing style and imitate Quartararo and Vinales.
“You want to know the truth? Because Vinales and Quartararo are very fast on M1 motorbikes, I am 41 years old and Yamaha told me to follow their racing style. I have to fight. When they allow me to make the changes I want, I feel better, I found a motorcycle that suited my racing style, “said Rossi.
“It’s normal for Yamaha to ask me to race like Quartararo or Vinales, because they perform fast. Maybe I’m not the fastest racer, but I can get some good races. Sometimes I am confused why their [Yamaha] position [Yamaha] is not too smart for me. “It’s also hard to find a reason why I can’t perform fast,” Rossi said.
Rossi returned to the podium at the 2020 Andalusia MotoGP after the last time at the 2019 United States MotoGP, April 14, 2020.
The next race will take place in the Czech Republic MotoGP, 9 August.
