Rafael Nadal has explained that he would wait to see the evolution of the health situation before making his decision as to his participation or not at French Open.
French Open is a Grand Slam tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It will be held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, French Open was moved to 20 September.
“I will prepare for the clay court season in Europe and when the time comes I will make my decision. I trust it will yes, it is in my mind and I am preparing for it.” Nadal said.
“But we have to wait for events, to see how everything evolves because it is true that in recent weeks the situation seems to have worsened a little. But my hope and my intention would be to be there if conditions allow.” Nadal said.
Nadal also has confirmed that he will not play at the 2020 US Open and at Rome. Not comfortable about travelling during coronavirus outbreak, the Spaniard is the biggest name yet to opt out of the major because of the global health crisis.
“My heart says today is not the moment to take long travels without knowing exactly what can and cannot happen.” Nadal said.
“My decision is to stay at home in Mallorca where the situation is good, it looks under control here, and to wait for future opportunities.
“When the time is right, we’ll see what the situation is in Europe and whether everything is under control or not. I do not know if I will play in Rome or not. I await news of the adapted calendar after the cancellation of Madrid and from there I will have to make decisions.” Nadal said.
