9 Interesting Facts Ahead of the Czech MotoGP

The 2020 Czech MotoGP race at the Brno Circuit will take place tonight, Sunday (9/8). Here are nine interesting facts ahead of the Czech MotoGP.

The surprise occurred in the Czech MotoGP qualifying round after Johann Zarco took pole. The Avintia Racing racer defeated two Petronas Yamaha riders Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli in the qualifying round.

Quoted from MotoGP, here are nine interesting facts ahead of the 2020 Czech MotoGP:

1. Johann Zarco took pole for the fifth time in MotoGP and took pole for the first time since the 2018 French MotoGP.

2. Zarco is the third French racer with the most poles in MotoGP, behind Christian Sarron (6 poles) and Fabio Quartararo (8 poles).

3. Zarco became the first French racer since Jean-Michel Bayle (1996) who took pole at the Brno Circuit in the MotoGP class.

4. Zarco became the first Ducati satellite racer to be able to take pole on dry track conditions since Ducati joined MotoGP in 2003. The last Ducati satellite racer to take pole before Zarco was Jack Miller in the 2018 Argentina MotoGP on wet track conditions.

5. If Fabio Quartararo wins in the Czech MotoGP (21 years and 111 days) he will become the second youngest racer to win three consecutive MotoGP wins behind Marc Marquez (20 years and 182 days) in Germany / AS / Indianapolis 2013.

6. Quartararo has the opportunity to become the first Yamaha racer to be able to win the opening three Grand Prix primary class races since Kenny Roberts in 1980. Quartararo also has the opportunity to become the first Yamaha racer to win at Brno since Jorge Lorenzo in 2015.

7. With Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco starting 1-2 at the 2020 Czech MotoGP, this is the first time any two French riders have started leading since pole was officially recorded in 1974.

8. Maverick Vinales will start from fifth position, which is the worst qualifying result since the sixth start at the British MotoGP last season.

9. Andrea Dovizioso won the worst qualifying result since his career in MotoGP in 2008 after starting from 18th position in the 2020 Czech MotoGP. Even though Dovi has always been on the podium at Brno in the last two seasons, including the victory in 2018.
