Stipe Miocic managed to beat Daniel Cormier in the race for the UFC heavyweight champion belt at UFC 252 which took place in Las Vegas, Sunday (16/8).
Miocic is declared to have won in absolute numbers after the match has lasted five rounds. The three judges gave Miocic the lead with scores of 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47.
Miocic’s fight against Cormier was fierce from the start. In the first round, the match was stopped because Cormier’s finger stuck into Miocic’s eye. In the first round, Cormier made Miocic falter at the end of the first round.
Entering the second round, the exchange of strokes between the two fighters was even more violent. The important moment in the second round was when Miocic succeeded in making Cormier waver at the end of the second round.
Miocic had landed a series of punches but Cormier was helped by the sound of the bell ringing the second round.
Miocic continued to land a number of whistling whistles on Cormier’s body in the third round. Cormier struggled to beat Miocic in the third round. Cormier also had time to protest because Miocic’s eye plugs did not receive a warning from the referee.
Miocic’s match against Cormier continued to see a fierce exchange of blows in the fourth round. Cormier tried several times to take down but failed.
Entering the fifth round, the two fighters try to ensure victory through KO / TKO or submission. However, the number of exchanges made was unable to overthrow the two fighters.
Miocic and Cormier also never succeeded in submission efforts.
This match is a trilogy of Miocic vs Cormier battle. In the first match, Cormier won the UFC heavyweight belt from Cormier’s hands through a knockout victory in the first round.
However Miocic succeeds in getting his revenge on the rematch of both fighters. Miocic won via TKO in the fourth round while returning the heavyweight champion belt to his arms.
Miocic completed the victory by defeating Cormier in the third match at UFC 252.
