Sevilla won the 2020 Europa League after defeating Inter Milan 3-2 at the Rhein Energie Stadium, Koeln, Germany, Saturday (22/8).
Inter started this match well. Antonio Conte’s squad was able to lead 1-0 over Sevilla when the game had only been running for five minutes.
Inter opened the scoring after Romelu Lukaku was violated by Sevilla defender Diego Carlos in the penalty box. Lukaku, who became the executor, did his job well to thrill Yassine Bounou’s goal.
Sevilla who conceded a goal quickly tried to respond. Los Nervionenses ‘efforts paid off after Jesus Navas’ cross was converted into a goal through Luuk de Jong’s header in the 12th minute.
In the middle of the first half, Sevilla turned 2-1 ahead. Ever Banega’s free-kick was headed by De Jong heads to the far post which Handanovic cannot reach.
Sevilla’s advantage lasted only one minute. Diego Godin managed to level the score at 2-2 after carefully heading in a Marcelo Brozovic free kick.
Both teams continued to play aggressively after the score drew 2-2. However, there were no additional goals that the two teams could create until the first half was over.
Entering the second half, Sevilla and Inter played more carefully. As a result, the two teams did not create many opportunities.
Opportunities for Inter just came in the 65th minute. Lukaku almost brought the city team ahead if his shot after receiving Nicolo Barella’s pass was not saved by Bounou using his feet.
In the 74th minute, Sevilla won 3-2 over Inter. Diego Carlos’ overhead kick in the penalty box that Lukaku tried to block went into Inter’s goal.
Behind 2-3 makes Inter try to play offensively by including Victor Moses, Christian Eriksen, and Alexis Sanchez.
Substitution was almost fruitful in the 82nd minute. Alexis Sanchez can get a chance to take advantage of the chaos in the penalty box but his shot is saved by Jules Kounde who is standing at the goal line.
After that, Inter’s attempts to score a goal were unsuccessful. The 3-2 score for Sevilla’s victory lasted until the referee blew the whistle to sign the match was over.
