The International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour is set to restart the competition on 17 August 2020. All professional tennis stars are pleased to take the part despite the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
Speaking on the Match Canada podcast, former world No.5 Eugenie Bouchard said she plans to play in some ITF events this year.
“It’s going to be tricky for sure. With my ranking, I definitely need to play some ITF Challengers, which is good for me to play anyway because I need matches.” Bouchard said.
“Get those wins, get that confidence back. I don’t think the ITF schedule is fully released yet so we’re still in the dark which is tough.
“I want to play as many matches as I can and mix it up. With the ITF matches, I want to play on the WTA Tour as well at whichever events I can get wild-card entries into. So I want to start there.
“Whatever you have accomplished, no one can take that away from you. At the same time, you don’t want to let that make you complacent or relax or rest on your laurels.” Bouchard added.
The ITF World Tennis Tour is the 2020 edition of the second tier tour for women’s professional tennis. The tour has been suspended since 13 March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are pleased to be announcing steps towards a return to competitive tennis across all ITF tours.” The ITF president Davd Haggerty said.
“This year has been a challenging one for all of us in the tennis world and while we are all eager to resume the tours as soon as possible in order to restore playing and earning opportunities for players across the world. We must ensure that we take the appropriate steps to make events as safe as possible when they restart.” Haggerty added.
