Arsenal won the Community Shield 2020 title after beating Liverpool on penalties, scoring 5-4, at Wembley Stadium, Saturday (29/8).
The two teams’ match ended in a 1-1 draw at normal time. Arsenal’s goal was scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 12th minute. While Liverpool’s goal was scored by Takumi Minamino in the 73rd minute.
The Reds appeared to immediately press Arsenal’s defense. However, a number of counterattacks from Mikel Arteta’s squad also often bothered Liverpool’s defense.
The Gunners also took the lead through goals from their striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 12th minute.
The goal came from Bukayo Saka’s cross which was unable to reach Milner’s header. The ball was immediately struck by Aubameyang and lodged into the Reds’ goal.
Behind 0-1 made Sadio Mane and his friends increasingly intensify their attacks on Arsenal’s defense. However, no goals were scored until the first half ended.
Entering the second half, Jurgen Klopp’s team continued to appear to lock up Arsenal’s defense. Klopp then pulled out Neco Williams and James Milner in the 59th minute. They were replaced by Takumi Minamino and Naby Keita.
Klopp’s strategy to enter the two players was quite telling. Liverpool managed to make a return goal to equalize the score 1-1 created by Minamino.
Minamino took advantage of a wild ball kick from Salah which bounced back in the penalty box. He immediately fired a shot that Gunners goalkeeper Emi Martinez could not stop.
Score 1-1 draw lasts until normal time ends. The match was immediately followed by a penalty shootout duel.
The Gunners also successfully won the Community Shield on penalties with a score of 5-4. Rhian Brewster is the only Liverpool player who has failed to score through the white point.
