The Gen.G esports organization recently announced the initiative to form the Gen.G Foundation as one of the realization of their vision in the field of education. One of the first steps that the Gen.G Foundation will take is providing scholarships to students who focus on fields of study related to gaming and esports.
In the next ten years, the Gen.G esports organization will provide funding of US $ 100,000 over ten years through the Gen.G Foundation. Starting the program, the Gen.G Foundation will collaborate with 2 universities in the United States, namely, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Kentucky. On the other hand, Silicon Valley Bank and social application Bumble are taking part in the initiative that will be run with the Gen.G Foundation.
Chris Park, as CEO of Gen.G stated, “the gaming industry has only just touched the surface in terms of developing the talents of gamers who will become the next generation of leaders in the gaming industry.”
The scholarships provided by the Gen.G Foundation will be available for 10 awardees. The funds collected will be allocated for women, people of color, and students with funding difficulties. Fields of study such as esports, content creation, jounalism, entrepreneurship, and gaming will be the areas that the Gen.G Foundation is concerned about. The registration period is open from 15 September to 15 October 2020. Later, 10 awardees who will be called “Gen10” will be announced in early December 2020.
Chelsea Cain Maclin, Vice President of Marketing at Bumble said, “We recognize that there is a very long way to go, but we are looking forward to opening up vast opportunities while empowering the next generation of esports professionals in partnership with the Gen.G Foundation”
Through the Gen.G Foundation initiative, the Gen.G esports organization is actively pushing the boundaries of the impact that the existence of the esports industry can have. The Gen.G esports organization is not only fixated on business expansion, an inclusive esports ecosystem is also one of the things that it wants to make happen. By seriously paying attention to education, the Gen.G Foundation plays a role in maintaining the sustainability of the esports industry.
“As we all know that education, equal opportunities, and investment are the keys to creating a more equal level of competition in the esports industry at large,” added Al Guerrero, as Managing Director of Silicon Valley Bank.
On several previous occasions, the Gen.G esports organization has also carried out several initiatives close to educational institutions such as community tournaments and seminars, or positive activities that are still related to the world of gaming and esports.
