Guardiola does have a neat record when dealing with Barcelona. He led his former club to win the Champions League twice.
However, when raising Man City, the concoctions never worked. The Citizens always ran aground in the Champions League, they were eliminated by teams such as AS Monaco, Tottenham Hotspur and Olympique Lyon in the Champions League last season.
With seemingly endless failures, Guardiola’s career at Man City is reportedly coming to an end. The owner of The Citizens is reportedly impatient to win the Champions League title, while the funds given to Guardiola to buy a player of up to 500 million pounds.
Therefore, reports say that the Man City coach will no longer be handled by Guardiola. Here are five potential coaches who can replace Guardiola based on Sportskeeda:
5. Erik ten Hag – Ajax Amsterdam
Erik ten Hag has worked with Guardiola before. He has coached the Bayern Munich B team for almost two years.
Nam Ten Hag stood out when he led Ajax to the semifinals of the Champions League in the 2018-2019 season. Even more impressively, his team eliminated clubs like Juventus and Real Madrid.
Ten Hag’s record with Ajax is equally brilliant. He coached Ajax for a total of 120 games, in which he recorded 87 wins, 18 defeats and 15 draws, and scored 325 goals.
4. Mikel Arteta – Arsenal
The Spanish coach has just started his coaching career with Arsenal in 2019. Even so, Arteta’s future prospects may not be in doubt.
The former Gunners midfielder was Guardiola’s coaching staff at Man City in 2016-2019. Arteta then left Man City to take charge of Arsenal, following Unai Emery’s sacking.
Under Arteta, Arsenal won the 2019-2020 FA Cup and the Community Shield. His neat note, was when Arsenal beat Man City in the 2019-2020 FA Cup semifinals and won over Chelsea in the final.
3. Julian Nagelsmann – RB Leipzig
Many expected Julian Nagelsmann to coach Bayern Munich after he left TSG Hoffenheim. However he took a job at RB Leipzig.
So far the 33 year old coach has done a phenomenal job at Red Bull Arena. He recently reached a milestone with the youngest coach to successfully lead his club to the semifinals of the Champions League.
Leipzig in the Champions League last season frustrated Atletico Madrid, before being defeated by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the semifinals.
He also has an impressive record of 29 wins, 15 draws and just seven defeats, and his team scored 118 goals during their debut campaign as Leipzig coach in 2019.
2. Mauricio Pochettino – Former Tottenham Hotspur Coach
Pochettino is arguably one of the three best coaches in the world who doesn’t have. Pochettino while training Tottenham Hotspur managed to lift the spurs from a specialist club in the middle of the standings to a top club.
Pochettino inherited an old and weak squad, but he built his team with young and experienced players such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, to Toby Alderweireld.
The Spurs played brilliant football and came close to winning their first Champions League in the 2018-2019 season. However, they were beaten by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the final.
In just under 400 games with the North London club, Pochettino recorded 160 wins, 60 draws and 73 defeats.
1. Massimiliano Allegri – Former Juventus Coach, AC Milan
Perhaps no coach without a club can match Allegri’s achievements. This Italian coach previously coached Juventus and AC Milan. He won four consecutive Italian League titles and reached two Champions League finals in three years, despite losing to Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Allegri emphasizes the organization and structure of his team. It can be said that he is the most defensive coach in the world because when he coached Juventus, his team scored an average of 1.93 goals per game in more than 270 matches.
Allegri recorded 191 wins, 41 draws and 39 defeats while conceding 208 goals in 271 games and scoring 524 goals in all competitions while at Juventus.
