English Premier League Results: Arsenal Beaten by Leicester at Emirates

Arsenal lost 0-1 at home to Leicester City in the sixth week of the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium, London, Monday (26/10).

Arsenal, who played as the host, immediately dominated the game. This dominance gave birth to many dangerous opportunities in the Leicester defense.

The Gunners created opportunities through Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. From a series of opportunities, none of them resulted in a goal.

Arsenal players couldn’t finish the opportunity well because of the tight guard from Leicester players. The Foxes play defensively by stacking five defenders.

Towards the end of the first half, Arsenal got another chance through Aubameyang. But Aubameyang’s left footed shot was countered by the visitors’ defender.

In the second half, the game was a little different. Arsenal were no longer free to dominate the game because Leicester also dared to apply pressure.

The threat was given by James Maddison in the 54th minute. It’s just that his shot from outside the penalty box is still sideways on the right side of Bernd Leno’s goal.

After that, Arsenal still tried to appear calm in arranging attacks. Instead Leicester play on the counter attack.

Leicester’s strategy paid off in the 80th minute. The collaboration of two substitutes for Cengiz Under and Jamie Vardy changed the score to 1-0.

The Cengiz Under bait that escapes the offside trap is easily headed into an empty net by Vardy. Meanwhile Leno was in the wrong position and could only see the ball go into the net.

Arsenal responded with more courage to come out to attack. However, until the match was over the North London team could not score the equalizer. These results made Arsenal lose their first Premier League defeat this season.

With an additional 3 points, Leicester currently occupy the fourth of the standings with a points of 12, the same as Villa in third place, but Leicester are losing on goal difference of 5 to 7. Meanwhile, the top two positions are filled by two Merseyside clubs, Everton and Liverpool, with a points of 13 each.

As for Arsenal, this is the third time defeat under coach Mikel Arteta and to make matters worse, the three defeats have occurred in the last four matches, so that the Gunners are now in 10th in the standings with a collection of 9 points.

The sixth matchday still has two matches left, namely Brighton & Hove Albion versus West Bromwich Albion and Burnley versus Tottenham Hotspur which is scheduled to be held on Tuesday (27/10/2020).
