Juventus is one of the teams in the Italian League which is known to have excellent defense. Their defenders like Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Merih Demiral and Matthijs de Ligt can be said to be excellent center-backs.
Not to mention when discussing Juventus fullback players like Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado who are very strong at the back and also dangerous when helping the attack line. All of the Juventus defenders are what make the Bianconeri said to have good defense.
However, in the 2019-2020 season, Juventus were in fact very easy to concede. Juventus, who at that time was being coached by Maurizio Sarri, was recorded to have conceded 43 times in the 2019-2020 Italian League.
A total of 43 conceded in one season in the Italian League was then Juventus’ worst result for the past decade. So, it seems that Juventus’ prowess in terms of defense is now starting to disappear and that is clearly very bad news.
Fortunately the current Juventus coach, Andrea Pirlo is aware of this and intends to strengthen his team’s defense. One way to strengthen it is by bringing in a new player in the winter transfer market 2021.
According to a report from Sportskeeda, Saturday (7/11/2020), Pirlo has now determined who he will bring to Juventus. The defender that Pirlo is eyeing is also Sevilla’s center-back, Diego Carlos.
Carlos, who just joined Sevilla in the summer of 2019 yesterday, seems to have made Pirlo interested in using his services at Juventus. Carlos is known for being tough, strong in the air, physique and an excellent game reader, which suits the demands of a center-back in today’s modern game.
With all the abilities that Carlos has, it’s only natural that Juventus are interested in him. With Carlos’s maturing age, which is 27 years old, the Brazilian defender can be paired with De Ligt at the heart of the Juventus defense.
Pirlo seems to be starting to think about regeneration in the Juventus defense, which usually relies on their two veteran defenders, Chiellini and Bonucci. With Chiellini and Bonucci not young anymore, Pirlo certainly cannot have too much hope for the two senior Juventus players.
So, there is a possibility that Juventus will try to approach Carlos in January 2021. Of course it is interesting whether Carlos can adapt to Italian football which is known to have a strong defense.
