Victor Font has announced to bring Xavi Hernandez back if he is appointed as new Barcelona president on January 24. Font will be a candidate along with Joan Laporta, Agusti Benedito and other candidates.
Xavi is closely working with Font and the Spaniard has always held the view that Font is the best candidate that the Socios should consider him for the upcoming elections.
According to Font, Xavi is the most suitable person to take in charge as Barcelona new general manager if he’s elected in Janaury.
“As general manager, Xavi will ultimately take responsibility for all the decisions taken related to football at the club,” Font said.
“He has everything needed: he can manage, he can lead, he has the trust of the players, he knows the club and he loves the club.” Font added.
Xavi left Barcelona in 2015 and is the manager of Al-Sadd in Qatar but has always been open about his desire to return to Camp Nou one day.
Ronald Koeman has been appointed Barcelona manager on a two-year deal. But the Blaugrana is still far from its best despite have perfect players.
Font said that the Dutch manager will remain in charge at the Camp Nou and backed by the president and squad.
“We have to show confidence in Koeman, we’re halfway through the season. The problem is the absence of a project.” Font said.
“But if things go badly with Koeman, Xavi will be the coach next season. The two roles are compatible, like Alex Ferguson’s role at Manchester United.” he added.
Another of the Barcelona president candidates Emili Rousaud has promised to bring change into the current formation of the squad and he is thinking of signing Borussia Dortmund if he’s elected.
