Manchester City won 3-1 over Chelsea in Week 17 of the Premier League at Stamford Bridge Stadium on Sunday (3/1).
Timo Werner was brought down by Rodri in the penalty area. But the referee did not consider it a foul and awarded Chelsea a penalty.
In the 16th minute Kevin de Bruyne almost brought Man City ahead, but his shot was still narrowly from the goal of Edouard Mendy.
Man City took the lead through Ilkay Gundogan in the 19th minute. After receiving a pass from Phil Foden on the right, Gundogan turned first before firing a right-footed shot which was aimed at the left which was beyond the reach of the Chelsea goalkeeper.
The visitors did not take long to add to the goal. Two minutes after Gundogan’s goal, The Citizens broke into the Chelsea goal again. This time it was Phil Foden’s turn to put his name on the scoreboard after receiving Kevin de Bruyne’s assist.
Man City increased the advantage in the 34th minute through Kevin de Bruyne. The goal was created because of an error at Chelsea’s back line.
The ball that Kurt Zouma kicked after Hakim Ziyech’s free kick was broken by De Bruyne. Man City also attacked back through Raheem Sterling. In a position considered ideal, Sterling fired a shot, but unfortunately only hit the post. The wild ball was then grabbed by De Bruyne to complete it into a goal.
Midfielder Rodri created opportunities in the 54th minute. But Rodri’s header from De Bruyne’s cross was countered by Mendy.
Mateo Kovacic responded to Man City’s attack in the 59th minute. Kovacic’s efforts were yet to bear fruit as his shot went wide.
The pressure from Man City loosened up a little in the second half. However, Chelsea also had trouble scoring goals. Christian Pulisic’s header in the 81st minute also did not produce a positive result for Chelsea after going wide.
Chelsea’s attacking efforts finally paid off in second half injury time through Callum Hudson-Odoi. Hudson-Odoi’s shot reduced the score to 1-3 after taking advantage of Mason Mount’s cross from the left. At the end of the match, Man City won 3-1 over Chelsea.
