Zinedine Zidane on Wednesday night did not seem too happy with Real Madrid s 1-1 draw against Elche away at the Estadio Emanuel Martinez Valero Stadium.
Madrid came to the host ground in great shape after 20 minutes of play. Marco Asensio fired a powerful left-footed shot from outside the area and the ball crashed off the crossbar.
Fortunetly, the rebound was left to Luka Modric, who made an effort to connect the ball with his head and define very corner and up to the rival goal.
“The feelings are not good because we had chances and we didn’t kill the game. Then, when they drew level, they closed in behind and it was difficult.” Zidane said.
“I don’t think it was overconfidence because we knew what we were playing for. The key was the second goal, but we didn’t score it. Then, they backed down and we couldn’t break them down even though we had chances to.” Zidane added.
Elche managed to react in the second half and put the playing ground again. At 51 minutes of play, Antonio Barragan suffered a foul by Dani Carvajal in the box area and the match refree did not hesitate to show the penalty spot.
“With the changes you have to be clear about what you want. We weren’t bad and that’s why we waited until the end. They’re two points lost, but we have to continue. There’s another game on the second.” Zidane continued.
“I’m satisfied with them. We’ve gone from more to less, but I’m happy with everyone’s game and with those who’ve played less. La Liga is long. There’s a long way to go and all the teams are going to lose points. We do our thing and keep fighting.” he added.
With this result, Madrid was relegated to second place with 33 points and allowed Atletico Madrid to be the solo leader of LaLiga standing.
