Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed Paris Saint-Germain coach after the sacking of the German Thomas Tuchel on Christmas Eve.
In a statement, the French club expressed its satisfaction with the arrival of Pochettino, who has signed a contract until June 30, 2022 , with an option for one more year. Details on economic conditions were not made public.
It is expected that this weekend Pochettino wi collnduct his first training session with the French capital team after the return of the players from the Christmas holidays.
Speaking on media, Pochettino said he was extremely happy and appreciated the trust that the leaders of a PSG place in him, which has always kept a particular place in his heart.
The 48 year-old coach is a historical figure of PSG, since between 2001 and 2003 he put on his shirt as a player in 95 games. Pochettino scored 6 goals and became captain.
The Argentine insisted that he now returns with great ambitions and humility and said he was eager to work with players who are among the most talented in the world.
“This team has a fantastic potential and I will do everything possible with my technical team to optimise the results of Paris Saint Germain in all competitions.” Pochettino said.
“We will do our best to give our team this identity of the combative and offensive game that Parisian fans have always liked it.” Pochettino added.
Pochettino, who was appointed Tottenham coach in May 2014, did not win a trophy in his time in charge of the north London club, with Spurs’ last silverware being the League Cup in 2008.
Meanwhile, PSG president, Nasser Al Khelaifi , was proud of the return of the former captain.
“With this appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, PSG is committed to continuing its strong development in the coming years,” Al Khelaifi said.
