Cyril Abiteboul on Monday has announced that he will leave the Renault group with immediate effect. Renault at the same time unveiled the identity of its replacement: Laurent Rossi.
Rossi will also have assignments on Alpine in endurance where the brand will return to the premier class in 2021.
“I would like to thank the Groupe Renault for having trusted me for many years, particularly with the relaunch and reconstruction of the team since 2016. Over the years, we have laid a solid foundation for the team, built infrastructure in France and the UK.” Abiteboul said.
“Sport is evolving towards a more sustainable economic model and the recent arrival of Alpine will give new meaning and new impetus to the Formula 1 project.” Abiteboul added.
On January 14, Luca de Meo will officially present the details of his action plan for the future of the Renault group, including the Alpine brand and the organisation of its F1 Team in which Davide Brivio, who led the team in 2020
“I would like to thank Luca de Meo for allowing me to participate in the creation of the Alpine business model, and I wish the new team every success.” Abiteboul said.
Meanwhile, CEO of Renault, Luca De Mao showers appreciation and says he is grateful of Abiteboul for dedicating his years to Renault.
“I would like to warmly thank Cyril for his relentless involvement, which notably led the Renault F1 Team from a penultimate place in 2016 to the podiums last season,” Luca de Meo said.
“His remarkable work in F1 since 2007 allows us to look to the future, with a strong team and the new Alpine F1 Team identity to conquer the podiums this year.” Luca de Meo added.
