New Repsol Honda rider Pol Espargaro will make his Honda RC213V debut in the 2021 MotoGP season.
Espargaro has signed a two-year deal to race for Honda from 2021 when Marc Marquez’s brother Alex will move to the LCR team in place of Britain’s Cal Crutchlow. And The Catalan said he is proud to ride the RC213V motorbike in the premier class.
“Wearing these colours is amazing, because I have spent many years watching the best riders in the world win races and titles with them.” Espargaro said.
“They represent victory, glory, this is where you can have everything you need in your hands. Seeing my number on this bike is very special.
“I have seen this motorcycle many times, looked at photos, videos, and I see it as a fairly small motorcycle. The kind of short and small bikes that you can do whatever you want. They tend to move a little more.
“It’s the type of bike that I like to ride. You’re the one who has to tell the bike what to do, and sometimes you have to force it to do something it doesn’t want to do, but that’s my way of riding.” Espargaro added.
The 2021 MotoGP season start in Qatar on March 28, and will conclude at Valencia on November 14 after 20 rounds.
The announcement of Espargaro alongside fellow countryman and friend Marc Marqueze completes the Repsol Honda line-up for this season.
“The first day I’m going to be super nervous. The day before I’m not going to sleep, because it’s a chapter in my life that I’ve always tried to imagine, and now I’m just looking forward to it. It is a day that I will remember all my life and I want to enjoy it.” Espargaro said.
“The main goal of this season cannot be less than being on the podium, or trying to win races, or even the title. We need to improve on the results from last year, they were good but I think they can be better and I will try.” Espargaro added.
