The fighter Justin Gaethje was furious and considered Dana White wrong in managing the competition in the UFC lightweight class.
The anger was expressed by Gaethje in an interview with MMA Junkie. According to Gaethje, the rivalry in the UFC lightweight class is currently unclear.
One of the triggers for the chaos in the UFC light class was the entry of newcomer Michael Chandler as a reserve fighter at UFC 254 who held the main duel of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje, October 2020.
Meanwhile, Gaethje considered other fighters such as Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson more worthy of being included in the reserve list.
“He [Dana White] harassed Tony and Dustin. And he said, ‘To hell with you. I will bring Chandler here, and he will be a reserve for the title fight’,” said Gaethje mimicking White’s words quoted by MMA News.
“It all happened three or four months ago. We are human beings, we have principles. We have morals, and that’s what happened,” Gaethje added.
The Highlight’s annoyance, Gaethje’s nickname is still carried over to this day because it is related to the champion belt that has not been removed from Khabib Nurmagomedov, even though he has declared his retirement.
As a result, who is the fighter who will appear in the race for the champion belt is unclear and tends to always be speculation.
In the current situation, Gaethje, provides support to Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira in carrying out the battle for the belt.
However, Gaethje did not agree if newcomer Michael Chandler immediately appeared in the title duel against Poirier.
“That’s why Poirier said I would make an assumption. I don’t know for sure. I didn’t speak to the man,” said Gaethje.
“But when White did it on October 24, he wasn’t just harassing Tony. He was harassing any bettor who did the right thing, who did something right, who wanted integrity in the sport,” Gaethje continued.
This is not the first time Gaethje has raged about competition in the UFC. Previously, Gaethje was also annoyed because the UFC was considered too privileged of Conor McGregor.
