Manchester City won 3-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in the 24th week of the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (14/2).
Tottenham threatened Man City’s goal in the 14th minute through striker Harry Kane’s free kick. However, luck has not been on Tottenham’s side after the England striker’s shot only hit the post.
Man City finally opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Rodri’s penalty. The penalty was received by Man City after Pierre Emil Hojbjerg violated Ilkay Gundogan.
Two consecutive attacks from Man City in the 42nd minute still couldn’t change the score. In the moment Ilkay Guendogan’s shot was blocked by Davinson Sanchez, then chaos in the Tottenham penalty box tried to be exploited by Gabriel Jesus, but his shot still hit the crossbar.
The hosts increased the lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute through Ilkay Gundogan’s left footed shot after receiving Raheem Sterling’s assist.
Although behind 0-2, The Lilywhites have not given up in looking for a return goal. In the 59th minute, one of Tottenham’s efforts through Tanguy Ndombele was still saved by goalkeeper Ederson.
Gundogan scored his second of the game in the 66th minute thanks to a measured pass from goalkeeper Ederson Moraes. Seeing Gundogan in an open position to attack, Ederson fired a cross from his own penalty box.
Ederson’s shot outwitted Davinson Sanchez, so Gundogan easily controlled the ball and scored Man City’s third goal of the match.
Gareth Bale, who played in the second half, also provided a threat to Man City. It’s just that, Bale’s shot in the 81st minute can still be saved by Ederson.
Man City’s efforts to increase the score failed after Raheem Sterling wasted a golden opportunity in the 89th minute. After receiving Phil Foden’s attractive pass, Sterling outwitted several Tottenham players before firing a shot. However, the shot was still able to be blocked by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with his foot.
