Suarez on Tuesday revealed his Barcelona exit. The Atletico Madrid superstar asserts it was indeed difficult for him to come to terms with the fact that Barca manager Ronald Koeman did not trust him.
Koeman did not have contemplate the Uruguayan, who came from a season not with his best numbers, recovering from an injury.
The departure from Barcelona was not the best nor was he in good shape, as revealed by Suarez in an interview, in which they even referred to him in a bad way.
“What really bothered me was being told that I was older and could no longer play at the highest level in a great team. This upset me very much. Barcelona fired me, they told me they no longer counted on me,” Suarez said.
“They no longer wanted me. I deserved a certain respect. If I hadn’t shown anything in Barcelona I would have understood it, but I scored more than 20 goals per season and I always had good statistics, only surpassed by Leo Messi.” Suarez added.
While Barcelona is fourth in the Laliga table, Atletico is the leader of the league. And Suarez has scored 16 goals this season so far.
However, nobody takes the bitter drink away from Suarez, especially because that decision also influenced the family.
“The most difficult thing is when you have a family that has been used to living in the same place for six years.” Suarez said.
“Having to explain to my children that we are going to change when they have their friends and their habits in Barcelona, that was the most difficult thing. But you also have to see the positive side: I was not going to be happy where people no longer loved me.” Suarez added.
