Super middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez gave Avni Yildirim a clue to beat him this Sunday morning at Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami.
The Mexican champion, one of the great icons of contemporary international boxing, will wear boxing gloves two months after the beautiful victory against the British Callum Smith and will have to face the Turkish carneade.
On paper it should be a real walk for the 30- year-old boxer, ready to defend the two world titles, but Yildirim will try to worry him and give himself a dream night.
“A knockout leaves no doubt, but from saying to fact, there is a long way to go and Avni Yildirim has a long night to go,” Alvarez said.
“We prepare for about a month and a half for Yildirim’s style and we are ready. He is a strong fighter, who goes forward, who endures, who puts pressure on his rivals and that’s what we worked for.
“Yildirim is a good boxer, and I know we will put on an exciting fight. I’m very glad that we are able to bring this event to Miami, a short distance from where my hero, Muhammad Ali, trained. February 27 will be a great night for the sport.” Alvarez added.
Alvarez added that he is already thinking about his next fight of the year, in which he will face a 168-pound champion. It is almost a given that his rival is Billy Joe Sounders.
Yildirim will be making his third tilt at a championship, with neither of his first two attempts succssful.
The 29-year-old boxer hasn’t fought since losing a title challenge against then WBC super middleweight champ Anthony Dirrell in February 2019.
“I am honoured as a mandatory to fight again for the big green belt, thank you to everyone who is involved,” Yildirim said.
“I always give my all, and everybody should be ready to see a war. I am coming to make my country proud, I am representing the whole of Turkey.” he added.
