Four Inter Milan legends, namely Giuseppe Bergomi, Diego Milito, Julio Cesar, and Esteban Cambiasso will be named into the Hall of Fame of the club nicknamed I Nerazzurri. Right on March 9, 2021, Football Club Internazionale Milano or better known as Inter Milan is 113 years old. Welcoming the 113th anniversary of the club which was founded in 1908 will pay tribute to their four legends.
The coronation of Bergomi, Milito, Cambiasso, and Julio Cesar to the Inter Milan club Hall of Fame will take place on Tuesday (9/3/2021) evening local time. Apart from Giuseppe Bergomi, the three legends were members of the Inter Milan squad when they won the treble winners for the 2009-2010 season under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho. Meanwhile, Bergomi is one of the best defenders in Nerazzurri history. Throughout his career which spanned from 1979 to 1999, the Milan-born man only defended Inter.
The former Inter Milan captain, nicknamed Lo Zio, successfully helped the Nerazzurri win one Serie A scudetto, one Coppa Italia and three UEFA Cup trophies (now the Europa League). Meanwhile, Diego Milito is one of the heroes of the treble winners of Inter Milan who scored the decisive goal when the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Champions League. The Argentine bomber scored the only goal for Inter’s victory over Siena in the last week of the Italian League top competition, Serie A, the 2009-2010 season.
“A goal that has important meaning for me is the goal against Siena in 2010 which made us win. It was a very important Scudetto for us,” said Milito about the goal. Milito also scored a pair of Inter Milan goals against Bayern Munich in the 2010 Champions League final which was held at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. In the final, two other legends, Esteban Cambiasso and Julio Cesar,become starter. Cambiasso oversaw the Nerazzurri midfield with Javier Zanetti and Wesley Sneijder, while Julio Cesar stood between the posts.
Diego Milito spent five seasons playing for Inter Milan and successfully scored 75 goals in 171 appearances in all competitions. Meanwhile, Esteban Cambiasso served the Nerazzurri for 10 years. Moreover, Julio Cesar defended Inter Milan from 2005 to 2012.
The Inter Milan Hall of Fame was launched in 2018 to coincide with the club’s 110th birthday. The award is given to players with a minimum of 60 competitive appearances for Inter, won at least one trophy and a minimum retirement of three years. The rows of players who have occupied the Inter Milan Hall of Fame are Walter Zenga, Javier Zanetti, Lothar Matthaus, Ronaldo Luis Nazario, Francesco Toldo, Giacinto Facchetti, Dejan Stankovic, and Giuseppe Meazza.
