Babolat’s marketing director, Antoine Ballon recently revealed Rafael Nadal has involvement in creating his signature racket, Pure Aero Rafa.

A few days ago, the Spanish national and the French racquet equipment company entered 20 years of their partnership and marked this auspicious occasion by releasing a special edition of the Pure Aero range typical of Spanish nationals.

Ballon stated that the player who has won 20 Grand Slam titles has personally invested in the development of his signature racket, including choosing the color for the racket himself.

“He picked the color and got us working on several versions and he himself chose his favorite racket after developing several samples which lasted almost four months,” said Ballon.

According to Ballon, the collaboration between the world number 3 and Babolat has been long overdue. He also stated that they had not had much trouble getting the tennis star’s agent to approve the project.

“It happened really fast. We presented the tennis project to Rafa’s agent and he was immediately attracted. We’ve talked about it before and that’s something and wanted to do for a long time,” added Ballon.

In addition, Ballon said that winning the 2020 French Open champions was a real opportunity to create interest in their products. The Spaniard’s landmark milestone at the French Open last season was justified in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the tennis player’s relationship with Babolat.

“You just have to find the right timing. With Nadal’s 20th Grand Slam title we get the real chance,” said Ballon.

A special Pure Aero Rafael Nadal series is expected to be released to customers soon. Ballon emphasized that the design and color of the new racket reflect the distinctive playing style of the Spanish national and the charismatic personality off the pitch.

“Rafa has a world of its own, symbolized by the spin and power that dominates the changes in play. Above all that is his determination and personality off the pitch,” said Ballon.

“It’s something we want to symbolize through its own color. After the project has been validated by all parties, we propose a color choice that embodies what we think best represents Rafa’s personality and play.”
