Jorge Masvidal believes that he would compete with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and that he would clean up the image of UFC fighters, after Conor McGregor was humiliated by “The Money” Floyd Mayweather.
The UFC fighter said he was confident that, if he prepared well, he could beat Canelo. If at some point the fight does take place, it would not be the first time that a mixed martial arts fighter has faced a boxer.
“They are different sports, but the reality is that I would like to face it and in one of those, who knows what might happen.” Masvidal said.
“I think that if I prepare well, I can do a better role. He showed that he did not prepare. He got tired very quickly.” he added.
Canelo returned to fight in Miami on Saturday for the first time since 2008 when he tangles with WBC mandatory challenger Avni Yildirim inside Hard Rock Stadium.
The Mexican icon retained his super-middleweight titles with a technical knockout after Yildirim failed to answer the bell for the fourth round.
“I came and did what I had to do. I had to win by knockout and I accomplsihed it. It doesn’t matter if he is stronger or taller. It doesn’t matter if he has a good trainer. I came to do my job.” Canelo said.
Canelo is keen to fight WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders on May 8. Saunders has held his super-middleweight belt since he beat Shefat Isufi in May 2019.
“I want to make history. I want to be one of the best in the world. I don’t want to be equal to anyone. But I want to make my own history and I respect everyone.” Canelo said.
