Chelsea is not a Candidate to Win the 2020-2021 Champions League

Chelsea legend, Frank Leboeuf, commented on the chances of his former club winning the Champions League for the 2020-2021 season. Leboeuf considers that Chelsea is not a club that deserves to be called a candidate for the 2020-2021 Champions League champion.

As is known, Chelsea did start their campaign in the 2020-2021 Champions League quite promising. Even though in domestic competition, Chelsea’s journey stumbled and had time to change coach from Frank Lampard to Thomas Tuchel.

Since the change of coach, Chelsea has indeed managed to show extraordinary performance. Even in the 2020-2021 Champions League, Chelsea still survive and have a great chance of qualifying for the semifinals.

Especially in the first leg of the 2020-2021 Champions League quarter-finals, Chelsea managed to beat FC Porto with a score of 2-0. Two Chelsea winning goals were picked up by Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell.

With this victory, making one step Chelsea is already in the semifinals. Because, the squad for the Blues – nicknamed Chelsea – itself only needed a draw or lost no more than three goals when they turned to host Porto at Stamford Bridge Stadium in the second leg.

Chelsea’s impressive performance made them start to be reckoned with as candidates for the 2020-2021 Champions League. Yes, not a few who championed Christian Pulisic and his friends to bring home the Big Ear trophy.

However, Leboeuf expressed a different view regarding Chelsea’s chances of winning the 2020-2021 Champions League. Yes, Leboeuf said that Chelsea was still not worthy to be called a candidate for the Champions League this season.

“You can’t say that Chelsea has a chance to win the Champions League, you must be too far if you think like that,” said Leboeuf, as reported by the London Football, Friday (9/4/2021).

“I feel that they have to be more consistent up front, become stronger in midfield just to hope to win something,” the figure who managed to bring the French national team personnel to win the 1998 World Cup.

“Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG – I think they are still better than Chelsea right now. It’s very difficult to see Chelsea win a trophy. I pray for them, but it will be something amazing, “he added.
