Real Madrid will be without Sergio Ramos for a few weeks after the defender was injured in the 3-1 win over Kosovo in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday night.
Ramos did not have much activity in the matches with Los Blancos in the last match against Kosovo, he was only played for four minutes when entering the substitution at minute 86’.
“Following the tests carried out today on our captain, Sergio Ramos, by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the internal calf in his left leg. His recovery will be monitored.” the club said in a statement.
Ramos self-discarded for the two Champions League quarterfinal matches against Liverpool, as well as the Clasico against Barcelona, conditioning the tie and even La Liga.
The Spaniard lamented a “tough few weeks” in an Instagram statement, admitting his hurt at a stint on the sidelines.
“If there is something that hurts me, it is not being able to help the team in these highly demanding matches,” Ramos write.
“An intervention is always a sporting and emotional break. Luckily, for a few days now I have been feeling better, but in football as in life, bad luck also plays a role.
“Yesterday, after the game, I was training on the pitch and I noticed a sharp muscular pain in my left calf. Today I have been tested and it has been confirmed that I have a muscle injury. I can’t do anything but speak frankly, work hard and cheer on the team with my soul.” he added.
Ramos’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and he does not look likely to renew his deal at the Bernabeu.
