Jordanian boxer Rashed Al-Swaisat was knocked out during a fight against Anton Winogradow for the AIBA World Youth Boxing and his death was known in the last hours.
Al-Swaisat was harshly punished by his opponent and fell to the canvas in the third round of the fight after losing the first two rounds. After having fallen, he was quickly treated by medical personnel present, but when he did not react, he was taken to a nearby hospital.
Al-Swaist underwent emergency brain surgery and at the medical center, despite the intervention, died ten days later.
“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Rashed Al-Swaisat of Jordan, who had been admitted to hospital on April 16 further to his fight during the AIBA YWCHs. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates, to whom we offer our sincere condolences.” the AIBA said in a statement.
The police confirmed that they are opening an investigation the death of the death of the young Jordanian boxer Al-Swaisat.
“The Committee expresses its deep sadness and deep sorrow over the death of the member of the national youth boxing team Rashid Al-Swaisat, who moved at the mercy of Almighty God on Monday for the night as a result of an injury sustained during their fight on Friday, April 16 at the World Junior Championships.” the Jordanian Olympic Committee said in a statement.
The AIBA World Junior Championships began in early April and its medal table is led by India and Russia with 11 medals.
Meanwhile, Mexico only has two representatives: Gustavo Rivera Rio Sanchez and Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez. Both lost in the preliminary rounds of their categories.
