5 History Repeats After Chelsea Won the Champions League

Here is the same history created when Chelsea won the Champions League in the 2011/2012 season and the 2020/2021 season.

Chelsea beat Manchester City in the 2020/2021 Champions League final thanks to Kai Havertz’s single goal in the first half.

The final score this season is different from nine seasons ago when Chelsea won their first Champions League title after beating Bayern Munich on penalties.

However, there are at least five of the same records that accompany the success of the London Blue team to the podium in the biggest competition in Europe.

5 History that repeats itself after Chelsea won the Champions League

1. Substitute Trainer

Nine seasons ago Chelsea won the Champions League title under Roberto Di Matteo who was a substitute coach. At that time Di Matteo replaced Andre Villas-Boas.

Di Matteo’s position at that time was a caretaker with his previous status being the assistant coach of Villas-Boas.

While this season Thomas Tuchel came as a substitute for Frank Lampard in January 2021. Tuchel was unemployed when he was recruit by Chelsea after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germai at the end of 2020.

2. Man City Beat Man Utd in the Premier League

Man City won this season and nine seasons ago. In the 2011/2012 season, Man City became champions of the Premier League with a record goal difference over Man Utd. At that time the two teams both collected 89 points and Chelsea’s victory was determined on the last matchday.

Unlike the nine seasons ago, Man City this season doesn’t have to bother because it has a 12-point advantage over Man Utd.

3. Win Against Team Portugal and Team Spain

In the 2011/2012 season, Didier Drogba and his friends stepped into the final by overthrowing the Portuguese team and the Spanish team. In the quarter-finals, Chelsea won 3-1 on aggregate over Benfica. Meanwhile, in the semifinals, Chelsea overthrew Barcelona with an overall score of 3-2.

This season the Portuguese team that was defeated by N’Golo Kante and friends was Porto. Chelsea won 2-0 in the first leg and lost 0-1 in the second leg so that the aggregate shows 2-1. While in the semifinals, Chelsea beat Real Madrid 3-1.

4. 50 Million Attacker Makes a Goal in the Semifinals

Fernando Torres is Chelsea’s new mainstay in the 2011/2012 season. Imported from Liverpool for 52.65 million pounds, Torres does not fit well at Chelsea. But the Spanish striker had a big service when he brought Chelsea to the 2011/2012 Champions League final.

A goal in injury time in the second leg of the match at Camp Nou took the score to 2-2 and eliminated Barcelona.

Like Torres, who didn’t score many goals, Timo Werner also had many services for Chelsea. The hammer, who was bought from RB Leipzig for £ 57.6 million, scored one goal in the second leg of the semi-final when Chelsea played Madrid.

5. Antonio Conte Italian League Champion

When Chelsea won their first title in the Champions League, Italian coach Antoio Conte won the title in his first year dealing with Juventus. This success with the Bianconeri was the beginning of Conte’s success as a coach.

While this season Conte won Serie A in his first season with Inter Milan. After winning, Conte has now resigned from Inter.
