Angelique Kerber, who won the final in straight sets, won the first edition of the Bad Homburg Open, which was won by the host tennis player.
The former world number 1 had little to do with defeating Czech Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 6-2 for the 2021 Bad Homburg Open title.
“You’re playing for now, on the pitch, playing in front of the fans, the crowd and your family,” Kerber said after the win.

“This is something really special. I am very happy that I won this tournament, a special tournament at home. This win means a lot to me and after all the time we’ve been through, standing here with this trophy, it’s something incredible.”
Thanks to her victory over Siniakova in the final of the Bad Homburg Open, the three-time Grand Slam winner has won her 13th career title and first title since she won the 2018 Wimbledon title.
“Everyone knows that I really enjoy playing on grass and I really feel great,” Angelique Kerber said.
“Of course, to play in the final of this tournament with that kind of atmosphere, it’s just incredible. I’m very happy to play on this court and hopefully I can continue this form next week (at Wimbledon).”
In her first final in two seasons, the fourth seed appeared in dominant form after she beat the Czech in 1 hour 25 minutes. For the third time he won the tournament which was held at his own home after winning the 2015 and 2016 seasons in Stuttgart.
The former world number 1 must battle through two matches on Friday to reach the final, including winning the third-set tiebreak in the semifinals against top seed Petra Kvitova.
However, the home player looked very energetic throughout the match, including winning 77 percent of the points when she returned Siniakova’s second serve. She was also able to convert six of the 13 break point opportunities she created before converting a third match point opportunity after luring Siniakova into error.
Now, the former world number 1 will head to Wimbledon. To date, he has gone 31-11 at those Grand Slams, including winning the title in 2018, finishing runner-up in 2016 and advancing to the semifinals in 2012.
“I will go there without having my hopes up too high, like I played here, every round is a win. I’m just going to focus on every game, every half and enjoy my time, both on and off the pitch like here,” Kerber said.
