Carlos Sainz Wants to Be Cautious for the Rest of the Formula 1 Campionship

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz said he wants to be very cautious for the rest of the season despite he finished second at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.

Ferrari showed astonishing competitiveness in the narrow and winding streets of the principality with a pole position for Charles Leclerc on Saturday and a podium for his teammate the next day in the race.

“We must obviously be proud of the progress we have made and the competitiveness of the car during this weekend,” Sainz said.

“It’s not easy to be fast in Monaco, and the fact that Charles and I were fast is down to the good performance of the team and the way everything worked out.

“But I think Mercedes and Red Bull still have an advantage over us and it will be difficult to fight for pole or victory again. This is why the result of this weekend is a bit hard to swallow because we don’t know when the next chance will present itself.” Sainz added.

With Scuderia showing excellent pace both in Sector 3 in Barcelona and all weekend in Monaco, some felt the team could be competitive at the Hungarian GP, where the teams arrive with aerodynamic packages with strong downforce.

“Look at the characteristics of Monaco and try to see which circuits are closest to that.” Sainz said.

“Even on circuits I’m sure you think of, like me, that doesn’t mean we’re going to fight for pole or fight for a podium there.” Sainz added.

Just like he was at McLaren, Sainz is having a positive influence on everyone at Ferrari, providing that leadership and stability when the people within the team need it most.

Sainz sits seventh place in standings with 38 points so far. The Spaniard is keen to get more points in the next F1 racing.
