Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero on Monday night has signed a two-year contract at Barcelona and it is thought he will earn aroud 5m euros a year plus 100m euros at Camp Nou.
Sergio returns to Spain after ten years, where he played for Atletico Madrid between 2006 and 2011. He leaves City as the club’s all time top scorer with 260 goals in all competitions, some distance ahead of his nearest rival Eric Brook on 177 goals.
“I think I made a great decision to be here and of course it is a step forward in my career. I am really happy and hopefully I can help the team to win things.” Aguero said.
Barcelona will also hope for a longer stay for Lionel Messi with the arrival of Aguero at the club. The two have known each other since childhood.
“Yes, I think Messi will continue at Barcelona next season. I hope to play here with Leo here at Barcelona. I know him so well, we’re good friends.” Sergio said.
Aguero has played for City for the past ten years and the 32-year-old striker has won almost all the trophies except the Champions League.
Barcelona, Meanwhile, is trying to offer new contract to Messi. Barca president Joan Laporta believes the superstar will stay at the club next season.
“The negotiations are going well but it is not done yet. We can make an offer to Messi within our means,” Laporta said.
“He deserves more and could get a better deal elsewhere, but I’m sure he appreciates the efforts we’re making. I think he wants to stay. For Leo, it’s not about the money, it is a question of victory. And that is what we are striving for.” Laporta added.
