Sergio Ramos is reportedly to leave Real Madrid after 16 years at the club. His feature had increasingly uncertain after he’d failed to agree a new contract with Real. And now the club have announced he will leave this summer.
The 35-year-old defender, who joined Real from Sevilla in 2005 only played 15 games in La Liga last season due to injury and he missed out on Spain’s Euro 2020 squad where next well he’s recently been linked with Manchester United.
“The moment has come, one of the most difficult in my life, the time has come to say goodbye to Real Madrid. I arrived hand in hand with my father,” Ramos said.
“It’s impossible not to get emotional. I would have liked to say goodbye in our stadium, at the [Estadio] Santiago Bernabeu.
“Thank you,Real Madrid. I will always carry you in my heart. It’s the end of a wonderful, unique period in my life, and the beginning of a period of hope and future with a great desire to show my best for many years to come and to be able to add another trophy to my list of honours.
“Thank you very much to everyone. This is more than a goodbye, it’s a see you later, because I’ll be back.” Ramos added.
Ramos won 22 trophies with Real just one behind Paco Gento and he was very pivotal on a lot of those finals as well too in the Champions League and in the Club World Cup.
He scored as well in El Clasico, he’s just been such a leader for Real a hero for them he’s really helped the team step up in the big moments. Ramos captained them to winning so many different pieces of silverware.
